Did you import the clip(s) from the CD in STEREO?
It sounds like it might be an “out-of-phase situation.
If the audio in question is on TWO tracks, delete one of those channels, pan the remaining track to “Center” and increase its level by 3 to 9 dB or so to compensate.

Then Mixdown the audio for playback.

First, SELECT ALL of your audio tracks (highlight them) on the timeline, then:

Sequence Menu > Render Only > Mixdown.

You should see a dialog box telling you its rendering.

Force-quit FCP and/or Shut Down the Mac.

Restart.

Open FCP and try again,

Add a – or a . or a 2 or something to the name.

Try trashing your FCP Preferences.

Open in FCP

Tools (menu) > “Audio Mixer”

and make sure the levels have not been reduced on that.

Here is what I just did with the built-in FCP “Chroma Key” video filter.

There are 3rd Party ChromaKeyers that editors on this board prefer as they seem to work easier and better.

But you might give the FCP filter a try first.
Add it and slide the adjustments until you get a clean key.
