The thing is, its not that snazzy. I worked on a Media 100 844/x for years. Now that thing was snazzy, and it let Quicktime and AE use the breakout box. I should quit pining for that thing, but it was a heckuva machine.

July 3, 2006 at 12:15 pm in reply to: Advice on finding first post production job?

I had to find a new job recently after getting out of a bad situation that started out like your own. I didn’t have any experience and was looking for entry-level work. I found a small post house that took me on as an intern, then eventually began paying me. The problem is that right from the get-go the guy thought he could treat me like a slave and eventually, when enough was enough, I quit.
I put together a new reel, got a pretty thorough list of post/design/effects houses in the area, and started cold-calling. This may sound a little drastic, but most of the time, if you offer to stop by whenever they want to drop off your reel, almost anyone is willing. A lot of the time, people will give you a quick interview as well. Seriously, what does it cost them to give you 20 minutes?
I made a lot of good contacts in that way and got a good feel for th market, who was doing what and so on. But I actually landed my new job by posting my resume on a creative job site. Think about it this way, when a company needs somebody new, first thing is to check out who’s already out there, not post a vacancy ad and filter through 10,000 replies. I think lots of openings never get posted.
    Hope that was helpful.

Thanks guys, I have been able to improve the audio a bit using your suggestions, but seeing as how we have no possibility of re-shooting, I guess we’re just stuck with what we’ve got.
    Again, thanks for the help.
