  • Thanks for the feedback. I have stayed away from Canon’s 24f. I’ll try things out to see how it works.

So after all this I did a clean install with 4GB RAM and life is working smoothly now. Must have been some small gremlin or toad in the system…

Thanks to all for the time and help.

I can use the M15U fine with my Canon HV20 but my XLA1 tapes do not seem to play well. I get a good recording stream out of the M15U but then it randomly hangs and skips frames so I have just gone back to logging from the XHA1. I get good recording out of PremPro CS3 into the M15U.

I have not found a good resolution to my problem yet. Good luck with your project.

August 7, 2008 at 1:37 pm in reply to: Exporting Large Files as AVI

I may be off here because I’ve only done a few projects so far in PProCS3, editing several events with large sequences (over 1 hour). I am not sure I like the quality of the direct-to-DVD workflow result thru PProCS3 as well as my old way of DVD production, exporting the uncompressed sequence from the NLE and then rendering to mpeg2 DVD format with TPMGEnc. I did this with Avid Liquid and was happy with the result.

I am still experimenting with the DVD production thru PProCS3, but I regularly export large sequences >20GB uncompressed without problems.

July 15, 2008 at 4:30 pm in reply to: Capture problems-Viewing on PC while capturing

I capture my video to disk thru a Sony HVR-M15. My Dell monitor has picture-in-picture capability. So I capture thru the firewire connection and also connect the deck to the monitor via the component-out from the deck to the component-in on the monitor. That way I can watch as I record HDV in PPro CS3. If your monitor supports picture-in-picture then run a component out from the camera into the monitor; otherwise buy a cheap TV or LCD monitor.
I came from Liquid where you could watch the HDV material as it was being captured. Hopefully Adobe will catch up with that feature.

I use Mercalli and it works very well in PPro cs3. (about $100)

I purchased the eSATA connection with JBOD setup. I use it as back up. It is easily 2X faster that USB connection. They have RAID setups but I have a RAID0 array in my computer I use for capture and editing.
