You can also duplicate the sequence by right clicking it in the project panel. You can then replace what you need in that.

By its specification (if it hasn’t changed) Prores is a VBR codec so while you can export it with different settings you might run into trouble if you’re sending it to some sort of quality control check.

I don’t believe the quality will change at all. The file size might be a bit bigger.

The estimate is, well, an estimation. It doesn’t know if the video you’re exporting needs that much bitrate and if there’s something simple like text on a background it goes in a smaller space.

[Simon Ubsdell] “Have Apple come up with a new, more aesthetically pleasing, or more operationally efficient concept?”

I’d hope it’s just a bug instead of a new, undocumented paradigm. Too bad because those tools look pretty nifty.

By exact I mean the _exact_ export settings. Like a screencapture of your settings if you don’t want to write them out.

What are your exact export/sequence settings? Are you using any effects?

That machine should be fine unless the templates you want to use need heavy rendering.

  • [Robert Olding] “I took awhile to figure this all out but at least we’ve now got a workflow between Resolve, AfterEffects, and FCP X where the colors/gamma now match.”

Setting up an internal color pipeline where you have identical results between different professional tools is a good way to go. However this won’t help with the issue that different media players/video services can’t agree on how your exported file should look.

  • [Kamil Iwanowicz] “Any thoughts ;)?”

Yes. There is no single format that will look the same in every player. If someone came up with a format or technique that did that he/she would be rich and win a bunch of technical awards.

The only thing that one could do is make a version that will look correct on a specific VOD service on a specific OS on a specific browser. Or in an offline case a specific media player with identical settings that you have. This isn’t really feasible if you need to make, let’s say, 2 services x 2 OS x 4 browsers = 16 unique versions of one file for a single web commercial.

I’m not trying to discourage your testing but there’s a reason this is unsolvable as of now. Because it actually is.
