Is it a big clip? You could send the original. If that’s not possible: set up the red settings for the clip and export a 16-bit tiff sequence (or a 10-bit DPX) out.

It’s not a Windows issue. DVCPRO HD is specced at 1440×1080 anamorphic. It will look right when it’s opened with in a program that know the correct pixel aspect ratio for the file.

I bought Production Premium CS4 and CS5 while I was studying. The student version is about 400 euros, you get a lot of applications for the price, you can use them in commercial productions and can install them to two computers. The license doesn’t go anywhere and you can upgrade it to a retail box at the same upgrade price.
It’s cheap as hell considering Photoshop CS6 Extended alone is about 1000 euros.

You can bring native R3D into AE. If it is a longer shot it’s split into 4 gig chunks so there might be (redclip).001.R3D – (redclip).006.R3D sort of naming going on. You only need to import the first one and the software just reads all the files as one clip.

Copy the cards to your hard drive, keep the directories intact and do not modify them, and then use Premiere’s own media browser to import the footage.

Are you mixing different frame rates?

You could also try to clone that “white” background to fill the rest of the image.

DVCPRO codecs are tightly specced. Either you can render and get garbage or you just can’t render and you get a warning about the correct settings.

You should use whatever they say or contact them for additional info. I had to do some mastering for a 48 hour film competition and it was a pain dealing with all kinds of non standard stuff.
