Also if I’m not mistaken an i7 chip will use 24 gigs max.

How many cores (physical or virtual) are you running?

Have you tried the Strobe Light effect? It comes with AE.

What does Quicktime Players video info say about the files? If you’re on Windows you could try G-Spot to check the files out.

[Jamie Franklin] “But it does come with a FCP shortcut layout :P”

Which I still can’t fully use on a scandinavian keyboard. Whoopdefrickindoo.

I opted out when Autodesk dudes said it would not ever support scandic keyboards. I can’t even use my öäå whatever keys for binding anything because they just don’t exist in any keyboard layout in the software. 2013? Right.

I’ll take a bit of that back. DO NOT CAPTURE STRAIGHT TO PRORES. It seems to be making visible jaggies in edges. I guess Final Cut can’t handle the anamorphic to square stretch. If your setup goes through a proper I/O then it’ll probably look a bit better.

[Trung Nguyen] “Also, I have a Neat Video’s Reduce Noise effect applied to the footage layer. In which order would the results be better: Reduce Noise first then Roto Brush, or the opposite?”

You’re getting into a world of hurt here. These are both very memory/powerhungry plugins. I’d suggest rendering the clip out with Neat Video and then rotoing that.

[Matthew Hale] “If anyone can suggest a better process for taking FCP captured footage to a CS6 PC workstation then I will be your best friend forever.”

Transcode the footage to 1920×1080 square pixel Prores or DNxHD or if your I/O can capture straight to Prores then do that. Handbrake is pretty neat if you need to make small files to handheld devices, but I wouldn’t use that in this case.

What footage are you working with and how fast is your storage? Also you can’t really play back footage in AE, use the numpad+0 for a RAM preview.

We have the 27″ top of the line iMac from last year with a Pegasus RAID and I can easily edit native 4K R3D with 1/2 quality.
