Making a Black Flicker/Flash?
Ive been trying to figure out how the editors in these music videos add these black frames or flickers before a drop in a song. The only thing i can think of is just adding black framses but that seems like its not the right solution…

I would think that you could just put a wiggle expression on the opacity of the clip, or, put a black solid layer on top, then do the same wiggle expression with the opacity. If you don’t use Wiggle, you’d have to keyframe everything, a pain in the neck, especially since the effect is being used at different frequencies over the course of the video.

Are there any plugins that you could possibly use. I know that Red Giant’s Misfire has a flicker plugin but it is white instead of black. Anyone know anything of that sort?

Have you tried the Strobe Light effect? It comes with AE.

I would suggest you to go with what Joseph has suggested.Using a black solid with wiggle expression on opacity.
You can also control the amount of wiggle using a simple expression.
