Dust and scratches aren’t in same spots in different frames.

Revival is terrible and Blackmagic is probably killing it soon. I wouldn’t put any money on it. PFclean is good but still expensive, you can get a 30 day fully functioning trial of it though. Digital Vision Phoenix is also an option but they don’t even have a price up on the website so…

Because you’re looking at a smaller video where you can’t see all the prevalent flaws that you might see if you viewed it in full size.

Well Premiere uses Adobe Camera RAW to figure out how the RAW image should look and Preview will use some Apple specific thing to create the image. I’d guess the OS X preview has some aggressive noise reduction by default.

It’s hard not to lose information from DSLR footage. If it isn’t exposed properly you can’t really push it in post. Video #1’s contrast might have been pushed too far and the shadows have lost information and are showing some nasty artifacts. Video #2 seems to be lit, shot, exposed and graded by someone who knows what compressed H264 can and can’t do.
Premiere has nothing to do with the fact how the footage was shot.

If you are changing the aspect ratio of the sequence you will lose some footage area. Unless you stretch it but that won’t look good.

You didn’t say how the deck is connected to your computer so I’m guessing you’re using firewire. In that case you’ll need to uninstall the firewire driver and install the legacy firewire driver.

You can’t trust QT player at all so if you’re doing something color critical don’t use that.

I don’t remember if AE CS4 had the color stabilizer effect, but that has worked for me.

Those MXF OPatom files don’t work anywhere except on another Avid. CC should support Phantom .cine files natively. Have you tried using the originals?
