  • Premiere CC: imported photos look grainy – why?

I imported some photos into Premiere CC and they look grainy in the viewer (and also when cut into the timeline).

The original photos are sharp, and so I don’t know what happened. Here’s a comparison of the same photo, open in the lefthand viewer in Premiere CC and also open in the quick preview window in OS X (when you press the spacebar to look at a file).

The photos were shot on a 5D Mk III and the resolution is 5760×3840. I’m not sure what other information I should provide, because I’m not sure what’s relevant. Have you seen this issue? If so, how did you solve it?

What format are the photos? I usually bring in Photos from the Canon 5D into smaller formats, IE I take that 5760×3840 and save it as a JPG, TIFF or PNG at 1920×1080,

    I wear many hats.

[Benjamin Reichman] “open in the lefthand viewer in Premiere CC and also open in the quick preview window in OS X”

Well Premiere uses Adobe Camera RAW to figure out how the RAW image should look and Preview will use some Apple specific thing to create the image. I’d guess the OS X preview has some aggressive noise reduction by default.

Did you render out a master to see the final quality?
Maybe your “editing” codec is the cause?
