Finding an equal distribution of the big three editing aps around here. But in a relatively small market substantial work doesn’t stand out as an editor with any single ap. I do hear there’s a glut of FCP editors unfortunately.

In this situation, a specific media producer has both aps mentioned and the up-to-speed factor could make or break a possible deal. Given the luxury of time & money, I know my preference but need a client commitment before I make any more investments.

Leads to question: I can’t get the any of these unconverted files imported through Clip Browser to import into XDCAM Transfer for conversion to QuickTime. The source folder displays in left panel, but indicates “0 files.” Haven’t found anything about this in manuals thus far. Could someone explain the steps to make this work?

Appreciate all the response. I’ve handled the JVC HM100 at a trade show and “wanted” one especially for it’s size. Glad to hear it mixes well. Very limited rentals here… so really have to own what you need. I get inquiries to rent out my EX3.

thanks for the reminder… why do I tend to forget disk utility? It still hung up at the same disk installation attempt as previously, but after Disk Utility it allowed me to respond to onscreen windows to get past that snag point.

Liked the BlackMagic Intensity Pro card until started looking ahead toward purchase of a Sony EX1 camera soon. Would like future capability to capture direct from EX1 to computer through its SDI outputs for HD/HDV – my MacPro only has digital FireWire. Hope to find device/card that allows SDI and analog capture for flexibility. But for this project, both audio and video are coming from analog sources.

Our audio tech has recorded multi-track for other projects – but this project is more IMAG focused so the budget/turn-around time doesn’t warrant going multi-track.

I like to record second source back up audio for live events too. This event is challenging me on that – do you have suggestions? There will be 7 hours total recording time in two sessions with 2 hour window in between. Rock concert, multiple speakers, plus some ambient audience interaction would be nice.

I’ve seen visual charts depicting relative range of various instruments but nothing visual for human voice. But I can plot my own chart now. (I’m obviously a visual person working in audio world on this.)

Could someone give an example of a standard rate to hire an audio technician for a custom live mix (in the Midwest)? I know there are many variables per project, equipment configuration… but any general guideline would help.
