    DV=standard definition, HDV=1440×1080 are the V1u options

    Yes, as I just indicated, the V1u is set to export DV and that is confirmed on the camera’s display screen. The footage was recorded on a GL2, thus DV only.

    All settings appear correct. Camera indicates DVCAM format footage exporting as DV out to Final Cut – Capture preset is DV NTSC anamorphic, device control is FireWire NTSC. I’ve been working exclusively in solid state HD last couple years, so DV is rare. Final Cut recognizes & operates the camera playback just fine, the DV footage is visible on the camera’s display, but FCP’s Log & Capture gives a “preview disabled” message and error message that there is no video. I investigated threads discussing the “preview disabled” and nothing seemed relevant to this situation.

    I suspect there could be an issue that the footage was captured on an exclusively standard definition camera rather than the V1u which records HDV as MPEG, but can’t confirm if DV footage is also captured as MPEG. I can bring in a GL2 in a couple days if this isn’t doable through the V1u.

    🙂 Please note, the intent was to simply seek some tips on accurate calibration technique. Not whether any one here approves of the monitor. It appears to be a good combination with my JVC broadcast CRT used for fine color work.

    Folks are reacting to a question that was never asked. I found what I needed on my own. Happy ending to my story. 🙂

    Just an FYI, the color bar calibration within Final Cut is giving a very decent match for all practical purposes.

    My research was finding photographer’s perspectives on calibration. I’ve heard of some special calibration tools in the past, if anyone has some helpful info to share, again… appreciated. This is the computer monitor which I would like to match as well as possible to a JVC broadcast monitor.

    Let’s please keep this forum a site where questions on technical guidance are discussed with mutual respect and benefit. This is actually the site where I found this particular monitor recommended.

    Please respond to the question asked. If I wished to know how to set up one of tho monitors that you’ve mentioned, I would have asked that question. You have been of no assistance and are only presenting yourself as arrogant and condescending.

    I believe the calibration is satisfactorily for now, but if anyone has sincere suggestion to offer, that would be genuinely appreciated.

    Footage captures in “record” mode but the camera must be switched to “playback” mode to access menu commands for delete clips or format cards. That’s why I needed to find a means to clear the cards through the computer rather than through the camera – so I could simply rotate cleared cards into the open camera slot without disturbing capture mode.

    Found the culprit in my methods. Thanks! I was deleting the footage files within Clip Browser after completing transfer of the BPAV folder contents, but the BPAV folder still existed when I clicked the SxS card icon on the desktop. When I delete that BPAV folder as you mentioned (even though it’s empty at that point) the camera now recognizes the card as available for recording.

    If it’s preferable for in-camera reformat, sometimes a live event facilitates that possibility with an on-time scheduled break, sometimes it doesn’t. Thanks!
