If you have the Kona card in there also, you can select the Kona deck control in the Avid deck configuration. Weird I know but Greg Huson uses it all the time.

Couple of things. First, you need to have the LATEST Keyspan drivers.
Second, some Keyspans have issues with newer system software.
Check this thread to see if it helps at all:

[Shane Ross] “I am connected to the same port that I use this deck on with the FCP/Kona system.
I check AUTO CONFIGURE and it gets rid of that setting and the deck area is blank. “
Okay, so the port is correct on the deck. How are you using the deck control on the computer? Is this the PC or Mac? Are you using a Keyspan?

September 25, 2009 at 12:10 am in reply to: solution to add MediaComposer to FCP setupYes, new Avid’s run without hardware. And you can easily add hardware. (though it’s not as cheap as the FCP side)
The software is now $2,500, or 295 for the student version. Since there is no dongle anymore, you can actually download it for free, and run it for 30 days in evaluation mode.
There are a LOT of big changes since you last used it. The most recent is the ability to mix and match frame rates, and have it done properly.
Have fun.

September 24, 2009 at 11:14 pm in reply to: Digitising Varicam 25fps / 60fps into PAL projectJust tried it and you are correct. Thought it would work if the effect was promoted and then removed, but no dice.
The painful option, which you might want to wait until the offline is finished for, would be to send out a QT reference of the clips from the 60 project, then import that into the 25P project.
Make sure to change the console command that allows the QT to come in frame for frame.
“ignoreqtrate” is a toggle command. When it toggles to “true” then it will ignore the incoming rate and bring it in frame for frame.

Set up a 60P project. Capture your footage. Go to your 25P project. Open the bins with footage from your 60P project. Cut that into your timeline. It will apply a motion effect to adjust the speed. Just delete the effect.

Hmm. The 5500 should work. What didn’t work for you? Are you sure the deck remote configuration is correct on the 5800? There are several remote connectors on the back and you have to be in the one that is proeprly enable.

If you are already Avid savvy, why not stick with the platform you know?
Granted, Nitris DX costs more than FCP / Kona. But you also get more I/O with DX as in analog audio, composite video, etc.
The real price difference when all is said and done is probably about 10K. So how long will it take for you to recoup 10K in increased productivity as you don’t have to learn a whole new software, find all of its bugs, and develop workarounds for them?
If your time is really cheap, go the FCP route.
If your time is worth money, stick to the Avid world.
my .02 cents

If you se it in the timeline, then you don’t need to relink.
What happens if you load one clip in the source window and try to play?
