But I still don’t get it in which situations Use Previews does make exporting faster? I have tried effects, dynamic links without and with rendering previews before exporting exporting and for me it seems that Premiere always in every possible scenario renders everything from scratch when you export. I’m okay with the fact that you always have to render everything from scratch when you export (I really hope Adobe address this in 6.5 + add native DI codec…) but when there is checkbox for Use Previews I’d like to know what it actually does. Todd? Anyone?

Premiere Pro CS6 really seems the way to go if it works like advertised! Only thing I’m missing is Adobe’s own cross platform DI codec. Maybe in CS7 🙂
Our facility works on top of Apple’s XSAN so my question is have you tested Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 with XSAN and are there some known issues?

Some guy called “Elvis Presley” reverse engineered Prores and that’s why it’s now included in FFMpeg. It seems that at least in some countries it’s perfectly legal to reverse engineer things and include those to your products. Yes if you’ve Telestream’s Flipfactory or Episode Engine you can convert to Prores with PC… But neither Flipfactory or Episode Engine isn’t meant to be used on desktops. Those are programs that should run on servers and their target market are broadcast stations and other large facilities and licenses start from 5000$.
So I also recommend buying cheap Mac and Compressor.
P.S. If you want to experiment ffmpeg (https://ffmpeg.org/) says they’ve included Prores encoder last fall. So if you’re ready to go to unknown territory and experiment maybe you should try ffmpeg.

Yeah I guess and hope you’re right. I’d really love to see new Macpro or EOL information soon so we can stop this speculating where Apple is heading 🙂

What I read Ivy Bridge server processors are coming out next fall so I guess there is possibility that Apple don’t want to release new MacPro now with much delayed Sandy bridge server processor but instead will wait to Ivy Bridge server processors because with Ivy Bridge they can have USB3 ports and possible next-gen thunderbolt ports. And I guess Macbook Pro refresh what we’ll propably see in a month will include USB3 ports. So do they wan’t to release new MacPro now with features that are somewhat worse than in their Macbook Pro?
So I guess there’s possibility that we won’t know until next fall if MacPro is EOL.

I used it three months last summer to create TV promos for national broadcaster here in Finland and I think there are lot of great features. Lately I’ve been using it only for my own small projects and my main issues are also stability and sluggishness.
But I’ve to say I’m little bit worried of FCPX because as far as I know FCPX and Motion are based on same engine. And I’ve been using Motion since version 1 and it hasn’t never been very stable software especially if you make anything more complicated. So if Apple couldn’t make Motion stable between 2004-2010 are they now going to do it? Of course it gets now more attention because rendering engine is part of FCPX but still I have to say I’m worried.
Last years I’ve been also testing betas of Adobe software such as Audition, Muse, Edge and Lightroom and I’ve to say even betas of Adobe softwares have been more stable than Apple’s pro apps lately.

I also tried Lynda first but Premiere Pro course there was targeted to beginners. This book goes straight to important things. And no I don’t have anything to do with this book. I just thing it’s good one.
