…and more reading now, i’m hearing different opinions on whether the PCI bus in my MacPro 5.1 can even utilize the speed in a USB 3 port? $180 bucks for that CalDigit card (not bad if USB 3 will work), or $30 bucks for a different card with no USB 3.

Hey, cool! So it has 2 USB 3.0 ports, too! That would be perfect. I asked the tech guy at the Mac Store today and he said he was pretty sure my MacPro 5.1 was not upgradable to USB 3. i do believe i’ll order one of these puppies! Thanks for the tip.

    Thanks David,

I’ll give the ProRes a shot today, but first doing the newest Cloud updates. Maybe that will do it, too.

    Hi David,

Thanks for the quick reply, and the scolding. I honestly didn’t think those other details would matter, but here you go:

    codec of clip: AVC-HD (MTS)
    sequence setting: AVC-Intra 100 1080i, 29.97 fps, DF
preview settings: (not sure what you’re looking for here)
effects: camera shake and posterize time

My workaround (that worked) was that i simply nested the original clip (with effects already added), then re-selected inpointa and outpoints on the clip and it worked. . . but still baffled why it would happen in the first place…with ANY codec or sequence setting. (but due to my blank above, i’m guessing all roads now lead to my preview settings?)

    😉

mine is hit and miss…as far as the playing goes. i’ve re-imported the clips in question, and again…sometimes that works, other times not. very odd.

well, i made sure i resaved the AE project in 2015, then i had to reimport that whole thing into my new project. SOME of the AE comps relinked/updated within my PP project, others did not, so i had to manually import just those comps. seems fine now.

ya, i completely realize it sounds that way, but i’ve checked and rechecked. 2015 versions all around. SOME of the dynamically linked AE sequences updated automatically in my project (they are lower thirds for a tv show), while others did not not and continue to show “media offline”. tried reimporting the master AE (2015 version) project which contains several sequences, but no dice.

not sure if it’s a bug, or me, or both.

June 26, 2015 at 8:57 pm in reply to: Update apps or new installs?

Thanks for the reply, Daniel. I will then keep my oldies and download the new as well. But, now that i look at the Cloud again, it seems my ONLY choice is to “update” (erasing the old) and no “download/install” as with previous versions. Any ideas to get around this?

Doh! found it…”advanced options”, deselect “remove old versions”

thanks for helping out a bonehead!
