Thanks! I’ll keep all that in mind and head in that direction…now if i could only track down this continual crashing in FCP! I think i have a corrupted file somewhere. Upon upgrading to Snow Leopard and FC3 a few days ago, everything was working GREAT – in a new ProRes-only timeline. Then i opened up and older project, crash, crash, crash, tried to export/share overnight – crash. I just uninstalled my BlackMagic software and seeing if this makes a difference…(still rendering/exporting – so far – right now!)

ah, cool…and would there be any advantage in rendering out Motion files as PR 4444 over a lossless animation type?

Yes, there is a “Quicktime Player 7” in my Applications/Utilities folder, but there is a “QuickTime Player” in my Applications folder, and when opened that second one says it is version 10 (with no export function), yet the QTP 7 DOES have export function and is the Pro version. Should I just drag it into my apps folder deleting the other 10.0 player version? (i know…no-brainer questions again…)

hmmmm…i just finished a clean install of Snow Leopard and FCS3 and i’m running into the same problem…but all those easy set ups already seem to be in the right folder and in FCP i have showing all formats and all rates. but there are many setups not showing up in FCP…

thanks for the ideas, here is what i found out today…

as usual, the “MAJOR problem” was the operator…ME! the problem with the computer not reading my e-SATA card was that i hadn’t installed the drivers for the card from the disc yet. simply solved.

the heat issue with the graphics card was solved for the time-being by the Mac Store tech moving the adjacent card away from the graphics card so it could get more ventilation. the odd thing about that one, though, is that these cards have sat side-by-side with no issue for the past 4 months. oh well. it’s all working great tonight…

but i think i will start looking around for a second system for backup use in the future…
