Are these all SD videos, or is there some HD, too? Do they want them on DVDs (or BluRay, if HD), so they can view them or simply want to get it all off the tape before it disintegrates? I’ve been doing some of this…mostly just really old stuff from VHS, 3/4″, and BetcamSP, but i capture them with FCP as DV Quicktimes, then archive the QTs on BluRay discs (as data, not viewable BluRays). At this point, i’m trusting BluRay discs to last longer than an internal or external hard drive, though it is a fairly slow process, and you only get about 24 GB per disc (unless you spring for the DL BluRays). Then, anytime they want a DVD made from footage, you can easily pull the clips off the BluRay discs, do a little editing, and create DVDs from the archived digital footage.
thanks for helping out a bonehead!
