November 20, 2006 at 4:58 pm in reply to: Moving to HDV from DV, sort of, is my thinking right?I saw this coming the first day I read about the DXV over on dvxuser. I guess Pana did the math and decided my type of shooters were worth less than creating a new P2 market. I’m bummed. Have you seen any footage from the A1?

November 20, 2006 at 3:21 pm in reply to: Moving to HDV from DV, sort of, is my thinking right?Beleive me, I want to go with the HVX, but I’m coming to the sad realization that it is not the right tool for my workflow. I shoot 4+ hrs of run & gun one man band per shoot, with a good deal of handheld, in environments that rule out a laptop. The FS100 provides the storage, but poses a serious challenge with large amounts of handheld, and it also rules out a steadicam merlin down the line.
If and when I have to move up from dv to some form of HD, I can’t find a workflow that works with the HVX. Even some respected DVX users are saying that the A1’s image holds its own with the HVX. Seems unwise to replace my 100a with a $7500 camera that does the exact same thing and won’t work for me in HD.

Got ’em. Thanks much. Yup, Applecare didn’t know they were there, guess they should check The Cow more often 🙂

What’s really annoying is that if you own 2.1, you don’t get the filters! Kept putting in my FC Studio S/n, couln’t figure it out. Applecare told me the filters are only for 2.0 users, kind of ridiculous.

Duh. It would help if I loaded enough footage in the canvas to actually fill the hole, he wrote sheepishly. Nevermind.

Did you make any changes to your OS lately? I had the same problem after an archive and reinstall, tech supports said the pro apps don’t like this. Trash all your compressor receipts, delete the program, reinstall, run software updates for compressor. Receipts are .pkg files in the hard drive library receipts folder.

Isn’t there something in between these two? I’m also looking to upgrade from the 6600, but the 4500 looks to be overkill.

Boy is this true! It’s like my fingers are being controled by someone else. They were making the old moves for frequent tasks before I could stop them. I’d say this was the hardest part of it, almost like learning a new language and having to translate in your head before speaking as opposed to just effortlessly speaking in your native tongue. Still, it’s nothing that practice isn’t helping. Also, I’ve refrained from cutting on my Avid until I have the shortcuts down.
