Looks like the next update to FCP addresses this a wee bit:
FCP 5.1.2 includes:
Scope and Monitors. Improved accuracy; scopes can now sample every video line. Scopes will also update in real-time during video playback.

Will this be a software only thing – or does it come with a firmware upgrade too?

Thanks for the comments. The new “lead free solder” regulations here in the UK are holding up our cards a wee bit, but we hope to be up and running in a few weeks…

[Bob Zelin] “But don’t worry – the new MAC’s will be out soon, and everything will get outdated again. “
True – but I’ll bet you

[walter biscardi] “Unlike most vendors, AJA is pretty much up to the latest and greatest when it comes to Apple Updates.”
Ah, good to know. Our 2 G5’s are about to loose their Cinewave cards and gain Kona LH cards so I just wanted to check what seems to be working for everybody.
It may be nice having all those consoles – but I never have time to play on them!

[Rennie] “The biggest complaint I hear with the 30″ is people lose their mouse cursor all the time.”
This is really handy for lost cursor syndrome:

[Ed] “Sure it will. But it won’t support Motion (officially anyway). The minimum specs for SD work in FCP5 call for 867hz G5 or DuoCore,
HD requires more, but still less than the MacBook puts out.”Are you guys sure about this? The Macbook has integrated graphics and I was under the impression studio will only install on a machine with an AGP Quartz Extreme or PCI Express graphics card. It’s the reason you can’t install FCP on an Intel mac mini.
My vote says no FCP on the Macbook…

Although the PSP uses MPEG-4 and H.264 it does so with a custom header (and custom naming convention) which basically means that you need to do a custom encode to get the file to work properly. So compressor/quicktime can’t do it. I’ve had great success with FFMPEGX (https://homepage.mac.com/major4/) which is a bit fiddly to install but seems to do the job just fine.

I’ve had this problem too. FCP Studio doesn’t have a separate quicktime key, it just seems to enable PRO functionality on install. So we had quicktime pro for Quicktime 7 – but when we ran the updater to 7.04 it vanished.
Anybody out there with a solution?
