    Thanks for the tip Karl.
I’ve been filming for over 10 years now professionally. I’ve used auto focus when needed.

Clearly, your intention was to share some information – thanks. It’s a shame that this forum often has snarky remarks to a well-intentioned post.

    Thanks Liam

You’re always so knowledgable about Vegas.

Hopefully one day I’ll be able to help out more on the forum, instead of always asking the questions.

    Cheers

    Hey Sean

When I started my business I did two weddings for free, probably could have gotten away with one for free but you’ll need a demo to sell your business. Most brides & groom’s want to see a demo before they book.

I’d been in the industry for over 10 years, worked on broadcast material (editing and colour correction) but the average bride and groom could care less about a resume, they want to see what you can do – and they want to see wedding stuff.

My advice would be to ask around and try to do a wedding asap for free – or even call up a church or wedding planner. Offer to do the wedding for free but that you would like to use the wedding as a demo – I am sure they will say yes.

The wedding business can be quite stressful, especially if you don’t have the right gear. It’s always a good idea to have a back up camera, 2 microphones, a lighting kit and lots of batteries as you can sometimes be out there for 12 hours doing weddings. You can often rent the back up equip and extra gear you don’t have from a local supplier. Just add a little more than what you would charge normally to cover the extra costs.
Remember to get a good contract to cover your butt in case anything happens.

Hope this has helped some. Feel free to send me a message if you have any specific questions.

All the best with your new business!

Well, just thought I’d add to this post in case anyone does a search due to this same problem.

I have no clue why or how but the project would only play 2 frames at a time, anywhere on the timeline.

After 2 hours of fretting and testing, closing and re-opening vegas and files. I decided to turn off the computer. When I turned it back on everything was fine.
    ? go figure.

Just thought I would add to the post in case anyone was researching an answer or if this happens to anyone else.

    Thanks – happy editing all.

I couldn’t find it in the manual – asked the Panasonic rep plus the person at the service desk. Neither of them knew and recommended it go to Panasonic for service. It wasn’t until I got both the DVX100 and the DVC30 and noticed they both did this that either I broke both cameras, or it was something in the lense itself.

I’ve since purchased the DVX users manual & dvd from amazon.com and found it most helpful. One of the questions they address is “what’s that clunk” – guess is it s common question. 🙂

    Thanks for the help.

    To further explain.
It seems that it will play for 2 frames then stop. It doesn’t matter where on the timeline I click to play from it will only play for two frames.

I tried cutting and pasting the video into a new vegas project and the same thing happened.
I also tried deleting each track one by one to see if it was something set with a track, but I still had the same problem.

    …???…..

Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Heidi

p.s. I am almost done this video after days of editing – just this morning I was thinking I should be saving a back up file (which I usually do). I can’t believe I was that daft not to. rrrgggg.

    Noah

    Thanks for your response.
I purchased the DVX dvd & book but I had that question nagging in my mind that I was doing something wrong with the frame rate. I have been using 60i so I’m happy I’ve been doing it right.

    thanks again!

June 1, 2005 at 2:44 am in reply to: promoting business at weva?

    Hi Brian.

I do video production as a full time business so I might be able to offer a bit of insight on your idea for WEVA.

I would imagine that a booth at WEVA would be some serious $$$.

One of the posts had a good idea about targeting the locals in your area. Making a friendly business alliance is always a good thing. You can both put work back and forth. Some of the wedding videographers have a different full time job and if they are popular, I’m sure they’re quite busy in the evenings and weekends – leaving little time for family life. Your services to edit might be a good way for them to still make money with the filming, but relieve some of the pressure with the editing.

Hope it works out for you!
    Cheers,
