As far as archiving the effect I doubt it’s possible as every “conditional” will vary even if you did the shot twice in one minute. By that I mean the angle that your subject moves the phone at, the way the light hits the gs, the angles of the light relatively speaking to the gs on the phone, etc all these will probably be slightly different even if the “exact” same movement is performed. So you can probably save a “ballpark” keying preset with your keyer and then tweak it. With whatever motion tracker you use the thought of a preset has never crossed my mind, every track is different unless you’re tracking remote operated real camera shots or cgi scenes.

Yup, me too, just accepted that they were gone. Really dumb of me considering that the gillion presets I have slow my startup time by 3-5 minutes and I’m always dumping presets from the ‘net into the presets folder in my sidebar.

Oh wow, I just happened to catch this. I’ve been away from the Cow b/c I too had a daughter about 5 years ago. I came here around 2002 and have praised and sent every person who ever asked me a how to question here. I have a ton of love for all the users who helped me learn FCP, AE, PS, and the like. But A my dude I have a gigagallon of love for U. U made me look good more times than I can thank you for. But I must say thank god for video cause now I know the face behind the voice that taught a generation. I was just doing one of your vid tuts last week, can’t remember what it was about, but I remember thinking, “geez, he sure looks happy!”

December 18, 2008 at 10:05 am in reply to: AECS3 not refreshing video….HELP please!

Thanks for the tips Mr. LaRonde. I have a similar problem when I render out to dv Ntsc at 23.98 some downsized/downrezzed HVX 960×720 23.98 footage. I have a 8 Core MacPro 3.0, 6gb ram outfitted with both the ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 VRAM and NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 VRAM cards. My DELL 2009W is attatched to the latter with a resolution of 1680×1050@60 Hz. It’s a work comp so that’s how they ordered it.
I just edited a music video 2 weeks ago with no problems, same type of footage from the HVX. I was even able to get the multiprocessing to speed up renders until towards the end that started getting hincky. I then cut it (mp) off and had no further problems. Then, this week as I was chuggin along, I started getting the weirdness of my undo/redo being greyed out, “AfterEffects needs at least 2 frames for playback” warnings during ram previews, my renders to dv-ntsc all freezing on the last frame of the render and audio being in sync when it feels like it when I bring it back to FCP 6. I had been using the workaround of just canceling the render and bringing the movs into FCP. I don’t know what I did to get the out of sync files to render properly when I did fix the problem. I did it all, emptying every cache I could in AE, restarts, changing the ram cache and % ram dedicated to AE and FCP. But today the buggaboo doesn’t wanna let me finish my video. Yesterday everything was fine.
I did not know about the lofty OpenGL claims of Adobe about AE, I was stoked and thought I was driving a nuclear sub after being stuck on a G4 PB the last 4 years. Do you happen to have a FAQ posted anywhere with your suggested Mac Pro configurations? Thank you and sorry for the long explanation.

  • Also you may wanna start using one of the free scripts out there for sending your FCP timelines to AE. Everything will be ported over except for transitions. I use one from I believe Popcorn Island. It does what Automatic Duck does without the return trip feature of AE=>FCP, but hey it was free. How I lived without I’ll never know; it has definitely increased the speed of my work multifold. I like the Popcorn one because they have a simple video tut on using the script. I was intimidated at first at the thought of using XML, but it’s so easy, again how’d I live w/o it. I love XML now and couldn’t survive without it. I can probably open FCP 6 projects in FCP 1 using XML it’s so beautiful.
