Stop waiting for miracles (a new mac), buy a z820, and you will have 7 slots.

Can you drop in all the 3 files that QT ref creates? Does it treat them as a single clip? Stig

Second that Vladimir. If Resolve is supposed to work properly as a finishing tool the render cache need to be rebuild to give a reliable playback. Or else you need to transcode the colored sequence to a proper and fast format, and re-import before “going to online”. If your computer is not topped with numerous GPUs and rockets. I guess they have a plan. Stig.

.. and then there will be no need to import the regular way or AMA for transcoding – as you simply drop the files into the avid media folder.

    Jason,

When rendering back to Avid, you should go with a MXF workflow!
DNxHD 185x (x = 10bit) is ok for the most of us.
You can even render DNxHD 444 350x.

    Hi both,

Is not possible to set up Avid for RGB as long as your not outputting through a Nitris DX. Mojo DX is not compatibel.
Avid works 709 internally (Davinci is RGB) and importing s clip (the regular way) with the RGB button checked will remap the full range file to 709.
The opposite thing happens when exporting the sequence with the RGB button checked – it will then remap from 709 to RGB.

If you choose to import your clips with AMA, you can actually switch from RGB to 709 (or the other way around) by right-clicking on the clip, choosing “set source levels”.

The important thing to remember is that everything you feed through your decklink or Mojo DX in Avid will always be 709 (even if your project is set to RGB) and the black level that is set to 16 will be shown as pure black on the monitor as long as the monitor is set to 709 as I guess it is.

So, if you work in Davinci and your intention is to bring it back to Avid, make sure to output normal range in Resolve.

AE is also a budget friendly online tool if that fits your needs and mastering can be done in your editing tool as well as client screenings.

    Hi,

In a professional environment you distinguish between grading and online. Resolve is a grading tool and Smoke / Flame is an online tool.
You have some basic editing- and onlining tools in Resolve as well, but this is primarily a grading tool.

If you are looking for a “all in one”-package – go with Mistika or similar that is built for that.

By using an EDL, Resolve will relink to your original footage.
    It recreates your edited timeline.
Then there will be no need to export your footage from your editing software.
You dont need to worry to much about quality loss when rendering from Resolve as long as you choose a proper format.

There are a thousands of threads about different workflows on this forum and others. I will recommend you to use some time to browse the web and read manuals.

About finishing, yes Flame is pretty much the industrial standard. Avid DS is also a proper online tool. Davinci is for grading, only.
