Blufftitler is a superb tool for doing exactly this and comes in way less than the cost of AFX. Have a look at https://www.outerspace-software.com.

I have no affiliation, other than being a satisfied customer.

    Thank you – that worked.

    Guillaume,

Thank you for the response. I feel stupid here, because I must be missing something obvious. I followed your instructions, and I get the concept, but I am still only seeing default particles, and they are not attaching to the text. In case someone could have a look, I attach the VP12 project file. it only contains one track, with the legacy text effect and the BCC8 PE3D effect added.

    Many thanks

    Peter,

Apologies – I am clearly missing something here.

I followed what I thought were the correct instructions, and what I have got so far is that each of the particles is the text from my text layer – the word ‘Sample Text’. What I wanted to achieve was to have the particles be small spheres that were attached to the outline of the text.

    Thanks,

    Stewart

    Peter,

Thank you – I see now how that works,

  • Guillaume,

Sorry for the delay in getting back on this.

I have still not made any progress. The tutorial referenced below is not for Vegas (which you did point out) but it is not a tutorial. it is a demonstration, made by someone who thoroughly understands BCC8, for people who also understand BCC8 – it does not explain anything, it simply shows someone very quickly skimming through a load of settings, but not explaining *why* anything was done, only *what* – not really of any use for a relative beginner. The PDFs that come with the effects are even worse – they assume you understand everything..

To the guys at Boris – is there a pixel-chooser 101 guide anywhere?

    Thanks

Excellent – some new borix videos – when might we hope to see them?

    Boris,

I would love a vegas-friendly tutorial on the Pixel Chooser, PC region and PC Matte functions present in a lot of the BCC components. I know there are help files etc but they are just a little too abstract sometimes – I find they are written from the perspective of a user who knows how to use the toolset, not for someone coming to things from the start.

For example, I want to mask a small region of a video, but only when certain colours are present in the region – conditional masking I call it. I still believe it can be done, but I am just not getting the correct settings for the pixel chooser.

Seeing a worked example of how to use these facilities in my NLE of choice would be very useful.

    Thanks

  • I read all the words. Syntactically I understand the sentence, but I have no clue where to start from…

Deep down I know I should learn how the pixel chooser, region and matte should work, but I really cannot find any documentation that explains how to use them. The supplied pdfs in BCC tell you what each parameter does, but I cannot find anything that shows you *how* to use them.

What we need is Mr Rofrano to ride in on his white horse with a tutorial…

Would anybody have any links to docs etc that might help?

    Thanks.

  • I believe that vegas 9 did not support OFX and from the screenshots it looks like PI is done via OFX – so in that case it will not work. I recall the VP10 was the first version to support OFX.
