When I was approached with a “too good to be true” offer on two HVX200’s, I told the seller that I suspected that the items were stolen and wanted to run the serial numbers on an insurance database. The seller volunteered the numbers and even supplied a document from his company insurance carrier that everything was legal.
The sale happened and I resold the cameras within a week. Had he balked even once, I would have passed on the deal and would have also pushed for a police investigation.
When I had my car business, I had a large sign over the door that said “Take your stolen Sh*t elsewhere. I will turn you in”. I took pictures of anyone who strolled in the door with used parts. Only once did I have someone turn and walk out.

I have everyone sign a privacy agreement.
I just had a guy do an effect for a short and I saw a FaceBook post from him that stated “Working on a cool ghost effect. I’ll post it tomorrow”. I posted “I hope this isn’t our intellectual property you’re about to publish”. There was never another word.This was the entire ending of our short and would have made it worthless.
We recently did a video on the latest album from Megadeath and Capitol Records had us sign a $10,000,000 agreement that not frame of anything would leave our studio.

When they send you a list, it needs to be a word doc that can be added to. Say they send a to do list on Monday. Monday night they send 3 additions. Tuesday, they send another list Off 4 items. Tues PM it’s 5 more things.
This is a sure fire way to miss something. Each list needs to pasted onto the end of the prior list.
This is especially helpful when you have 3 people involved.
Good luck. I just went through this and it was rocky at times.

Get yourself a huge, fireproof gun safe and have someone run an offshoot line from the sprinkler system. Also, put a 32Tb backup system in the safe, in a rack and fireproof your cable entry. Pretty simple actually. Carrying your hard drives off site is probably the worst thing you could possible do. Accidents, thefts, forgetfulness could hurt you.
