I guess that many of you do not work in a Professional Post facility. Don’t get me wrong, I really like PPro, but its “Pro” shortcomings are well documented. This board has listed them many times under “Feature Requests”. I will just name a few.1. Better Keyboard shortcuts (a recent topic)
2. MUCH Better Media management (do you guys regularly work on shows with 1000’s of clips? I don’t think so if you are not dying for an upgrade.)
3. Proper batch capture of sub clipped elements. (This is HUGE) If I have a sub-clip why do I have to batch cature the whole clip?
3. Reliable FRAME ACCURATE capture and batch capture.
4. Key-frameable speed changes. (On every Professional’s wish list!)
5. Proper File Locking and release Functions for Multi-User use on a SAN. (If you have a clip in your open project- No one else can use that clip on the SAN. (This keeps PPro from the making it to the majors.)This is just a few things that come to mind, I understand that many people here are hobbyists, but don’t speak about Pro issues just because they are not important to you. I am not trying to flame anyone here, but the tone of this thread bugged me.
I look forward to what Premiere “Pro” has in store for us. I am sure that they are working on some of these issues.
Best to all

Just for reference, We sell a 2.5 Terabyte Raid Box (2TB available) Ultra 160 SCSI box.
ATTO gives us about 120MBs Write and about 90MBs Read rates.
(not to advertise – but $4500) :-).Good Luck, Keep us updated,

Hi Marisu,
I think you have a bad raid controller or disks. What kind Raid box do you have? Poor write speed is common for poor RAID5 implementaion, your raid controller has to be fast.
What are you write performance benchmarks? We use a utility by ATTO. It is free, you may have to register to get it.https://www.atto.org/software/index.html
Let me know what you get.
Good Luck,

The DVD UDF File system has the same problem. Ever notice that VOB files are under 2 gigs? You MUST use NTFS.

Hey Mark,
Do you have the latest 6122 drivers with PPro 1.5.1 and the hotfix 2 ?
This is related to the “updating timeline” issue. I just finished 2 quick projects just like that. I use PPro in a NON Matrox mode for these type of projects. Try starting a new NON Matrox project and then import your project into it. Let me know if this helps.Good Luck,
SteveP.S. are you guys out of Incite now?

April 26, 2005 at 1:01 pm in reply to: Drama with breaking out stereo to mono (and editing with mono tracks!)I don’t have a lot of time this morning to explain the technique, but you would be much better off using a MONO SUBMIX track instead of what you are trying to do, and make it work like *edit. Email me if you want more info.
Good Luck,
Steve -
Thanks, but already been there.
I was hoping someone else has tried this. I know that PPro is SUPPOSED to work on a SAN, but I do not know anyone that has done this.

This PPro 1.5
I’m am not talking about a corporate environment. I am working with 4 video workstations connected via Gigbit ethernet. The system is built for video. The server has nothing to do with it. Each workstation has 1.2 Terabytes of storage and I need to be able to open a project on a mapped drive and save changes. It is a PPro problem only. Like I said before, ALL other production apps work fine! This is a really big problem.Steve

Absolutely !
This is only with PPro. I can open then project and work but cannot save changes. I can do a “save as” ONCE! to a network drive and then cannot save again whithout doing a save as AGAIN with another name.
I can create a new project on that drive but get an error saying that the file is locked when it tries to completly open it.
These are the symptoms. I can do AE projects, Word etc all day long to these drives. It is just PPro.Steve
