Adobe doesn’t sell old versions. You should try eBay, Amazon or somewhere else. I think CS3 works on PPC, but search the web to make sure — you might need to go back to AE 7.

To maintain quality, minimize compression. Some Quicktime options are:
– Animation codec, 100% or slightly less
– Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2
– Photo-JPEG… but with less compression, you have higher quality, but are less likely to play the movie back without skipping.
So. Once you render these titles, what do you want to do with them? Play them back as a final deliverable (playability important), or import them into another application for further processing (quality important)?

How about a particle generator (Particular) with no movement? (the squares just pop onscreen) Maybe two layers? You’d use each particle layer as an alpha matte for the movie, but slightly offset? With a copy of each instance (layer) added in shades of gray (almost transparent) above that in the stack to affect the brightness of each movie square?

Yes. QT Player doesn’t read alpha channels, so you were wise to check it in AE or Avid.

Did you try rendering with straight (not premultiplied) alpha?

Have you Googled “after effects” technicolor ?

Use Composition>Make Movie instead of File>Export. Read up on the Render Queue in the Help. In general, only use Export if you have to render to a non-Quicktime format.
Leave Render Settings at Best for most renders.
Choose an Output Module (or make one) for what you need. In general, you’ll just have to choose a codec (look for “format” and “options”) in the Output Module. -
I’d recommend Quicktime (Animation codec) movies, but you should try posting this question to the Imagineer Systems COW forum. They make Mocha.
