  • Recompress it, j. The file size is waaaaaay too big. Go for 75KB/sec, Sorenson Pro 3 if you got it, 320×240, 15 fps.

(still waiting, and I’m on broadband)

For progressive download movies, I render out of AE using the “composition>Make Movie” command to the Quicktime animation codec at the final frame size & frame rate. Try 480×360 or 320×240 at 15 fps for video sources. Next, I drag the video into Media Cleaner Pro for encoding to the Sorenson 3 Pro codec. You need Pro for high quality, low data rate encoding — regular Sorenson out of AE won’t do it.

The Sorenson Pro settings are usually spatial 50%, 15 fps, 75 KB/s, VBR, keyframe every 75. Audio is QDesign Music 2, 6 KB/s, 16-bit.

I’ve never made streaming movies, so if you want to know more, you might want to check out the docs on the Apple Quicktime site.

    Hope that helps,

Trapcode’s Particular should be able to do it by creating static particles from a moving emitter, thus creating a path. Peder posted a tip to that end recently … if I recall, it involves:

    – setting velocity to 0
    – setting velocity from motion to 0
    – using a light as an emitter, and animating the light’s position to create the “stroke” path
    – in your case, using a layer as a custom particle

    Hope that gets you started.

I got mine from Sean Cavanaugh’s Digital Type Design Guide, but you can google “alt codes”.

    Try https://home.olemiss.edu/~ccjjs/OCUG/Oct-98-nl.html .

I’m not sure why you’re having that problem.

I select the text tool, click in the comp windows, then hold down the alt key, then type the four-digit code for the character on the numeric keypad, then release the alt key.

If you’re having trouble with the Euro character, you might need to download this font:

    Hope that helps,

You should convert the MP3 to AIFF or WAV using Quicktime Pro anyway. MP3s in AE can cause clicks and other problems.

[Mylenium] “when I tried such things in 3D progs some time ago, it just wasn’t fun at all… “

I know what you mean, having tried it using Lightwave’s dynamic parenting a couple of years ago. After the first couple of moves it became unwieldy, so I faked the rotations by rotating the null very fast, doing renders at different cube orientations, then dissolving between them. In this case, it worked because the rotations were very fast: zip-zip-zip. They didn’t have to be completely accurate.

If the cube has to rotate slowly, more than twice … ouch.
