I’m not sure why you’re having that problem.

I select the text tool, click in the comp windows, then hold down the alt key, then type the four-digit code for the character on the numeric keypad, then release the alt key.

If you’re having trouble with the Euro character, you might need to download this font:
https://www.fonts.com/FindFonts/Euro.htm
