I haven’t tried it, but you might want to look into Resizer by Digital Anarchy.

Effects are applied to layers in AE. In 5.0, text effects are best applied to a solid layer. Layer>new>solid. I believe the text should be applied in “transparent”, not “over original” mode — in the text effect settings.

Keyframe the opacity of the solid, and the text will follow suit.

Adjustment layers are meant to affect all layers below them. Using them to affect one layer can cause trouble later on.

AE is not meant to be used by jumping in. It has its own workflow, which can be different from that of editing apps. A little time spent with the manual can work wonders.

What do you mean by “presets”? There are text animation presets in AE 6.5.1. If you want more, try aeenhancers.com.

By the way, AE is always broadcast quality. It just depends on your composition size and final render settings.

I’d animate the levels or curves effect.

I’d say the answer is obvious: use a dedicated encoder. They’re always better.

  • Sorry, I don’t know Encore. Why don’t you try a test?

  • Do not encode to DV as an intermediate codec. It is lossy and will degrade the image. It is for acquisition.

Photo-JPEG is fine. In fact, you can even try it at 94%, which is the first place the slider stops (usually) short of 100%.

Many people also use the Animation codec for highest quality, but it creates large files.

As I said, do not encode to DV as an intermediate codec.

Sometimes, those who saw the question just don’t know the correct answer, jS. I’ve never dealt with HD, so that’s why I’ve stayed away until now.

What did you use to encode? Not all MPEG-2 encoders are equal. I’ve had good results rendering to the Animation codec out of AE, then sending that file to Apple’s Compressor for MPEG-2 encoding.

Maybe you should try the DVD forum, since they seem to deal with MPEG-2 issues more often.

    Hope that helps,
    Steve
