Brilliant, Kevin — that’s it. The effect (under “perspective”) settings would probably be:
Left view: one footage layer
Right view: the other footage layer
Convergence offset: 0
3D view: interlace Upper L Lower R -
Some call it “non-linear stretching”. AE doesn’t do it, but this seems to do it:

Did you try using a lower quality setting with the Animation codec? (under “options” in the Output Module)

Hm. I thought it was independent, being a Quicktime viewer. Opt-double-clicking may be dependent.
Oh, well. Try Caps Lock to prevent comp redraw?

It might be something in the AE Prefs, which is independent of the project. Different machines running the same project may have different prefs.
It’s hard for me to say for sure — I don’t have first-hand info on this. Maybe Googling would help, or you could go to cybmotion.com and write Chris Meyer himself.

C4D performs excellently on my 8-core Mac. I think the CineBench scores were over 5 times those on my dual G5. The 8-core uses the X1900XT card — middle of the three offered, if I recall.
Beyond that, it integrates well with AE.
Now don’t get me wrong about what I’m about to say. You have a lot of questions about C4D, but this is an AE forum, as you know, and it would be less than useful if it were to be filled with non-AE threads. I recommend you go to the Cinema4D COW forum, C4Dcafe, or CGTalk to find out more non-AE concerns about C4D. 🙂

You need to read the manual, and possibly the Classroom in a Book. Then you go to the above page, find their study aids, then find a place near you that will test you in person.
By the way, the ACE is not a big deal in my opinion, unless you want training or educational work, or to just be an AE jockey. Your reel is better promotional material to be a motion graphics artist.
(Having said that, I’d better upgrade or drop my ACE … ACE 5.5 looks kinda lame)
