I just bought the Mercury Elite – AL Pro 800 and Striped it at RAID 1. Having mirrored drives with FireWire 800 was hard to pass up. The prices are great too. We have had 3 Lacie drives die over the last 2 years. 2 of them were relatively new.

Get 2, the same size. I got a 23 and a 20, 2 years ago. I got the 20 to save a little money. I regret not spending the extra cash. It just looks and feels out of balance on the desktop.

Just have a project with elements, effects and slates that’s always open. Make Bars and Tone at -20db and always grab the one from that project.

I ran some tests in the demo version of Episode. The results are good. I could push it to 14mbps. However, when I check the file in Bitrate Viewer it says it’s VBR. The video server playing back the files needs CBR. It seems whatever setting I have, it comes out as VBR in Bitrate Viewer. Any ideas?

One more thing…
We need to deliver at 10 mbps. I see Compressor only goes to 9 for constant.

If you are going FW800, I just purchased this 500GB drive for a big project. I formatted it RAID1. Which was a little tricky, they have instructions you need to dig at the site to find. Remember the RAID cuts the drive space in half. There is a good selection of SATA and FW drives here. We’ve had some problems with LaCie drives now and then.
