I am still running XP, but I have seen posts by Vista users who say that there are no problems.

Well, yes, of course. It doesn’t make a new clip. It just make a reference to the original but with in/out markings.
If you want a new file, put it on the timeline and export it to a new file.

I would say that there have been no changes that are noticeable, so as far as I am concerned, Aspect HD or Prospect HD is the way to go.

That is the JVC version of mine. It isn’t perfect but it works and I would not have been so happy with HDV for the last two years without it. I only paid $249 but mine does not upscale SD to HD. I certainly will have gotten my money out of it before it hits the scrap heap (or EBay when I get Blu-Ray).

Aanarav is correct. It is a full version. Unfortunately for Adobe users, it is still necessary to export from Premiere Pro to use the file in Encore. Therefore the file can come from anywhere. Make sense?

There are as many ways to do that as there are people to try it.
Start with a Fast Blur and just the horizontal blur perhaps. It is difficult to understand what you mean by “overlaying a layer on top of another”. Do you mean you want to dissolve, not blur? Or both at the same time?

Sounds right. Of course it depends on the matte. You might need to invert the effect, or change the bottom two tracks around.

It depends on the subject matter. If about people, show people. If about places, show places. Specific or generic, either way depending on the topic. If it is a book on math, show some of the equations floatinmg around. That kind of thing.

The question is: Export to what? If you mean Windows Media or Quicktime or Flash, then no problem. If you mean to DVD, forget it. DVD has set rules.
Start by exporting the DV AVI at 720X576.
All you need to do is create a custom project at the frame size you want to use, let’s say 576X576 with square pixels. Then import the normal sized clip and put it on the sequence. The extra will hang over the edges and not be seen.
Then export the exact same frame size of the project to any of the export codecs you want.
