I use After Effects for subtitles because you can automate the value of the text parameter just like you can other parameters.
So just copy in line by line at the right keyframe.

There is something horribly wrong with your installation. You might try deleting the preferences file, but it may take a full removal and reinstallation.
I have never, ever, seen the Motion Effect missing. Ever.

What may be wrong is that Adobe does not support WinXP 64. The drivers of all types are just too different.

That is exactly right. I often edit HDV footage in a SD project, or even smaller custom project, especially when I know that the ultimate goal is for a web page anyway.

It happens to me too. It has to do with memory swapping I think, which is why I am glad I have a 10K rpm system drive. And I am thinking of going to 15K rpm.

Do you have a HD DVD player? Blu-Ray? Sony Playstation? XBox?
If not, then you can’t play HD material on your HDTV anyway. So go buy one, then we can just tell you to export the format best liked by the device you buy.

Closed captioning is not done on the video itself. It is a separate issue altogether. It is done after the video is exported.
Encore DVD can do the job, and yes, it can read from a properly formatted text file.
The closed captioning is turned off and on by the user with the TV or the DVD player.
