Or, just export using the Adobe Media Encoder and crop you video in the Source tab. Check the results in the Output tab.

Where did your presets go? You may need to reinstall the program. It should only take a few minutes to remove and reinstall from the DVDs.

Try deleting the audio cache files and let the program create new cache files.

Yes, using CBR for a short video at 8Mbps using the highest quality is fine for what you want to do. There is no need for a second pass to optimize the quality if it is using the maximum rate.
Don’t be tempted to use a higher bitrate since there could be players that have trouble with anything too high.

That is one of the advantages to using Cineform when editing HDV. You can export a Cineform AVI without much loss to speak of. What they might call “visually perfect”.

You should be able to export to Quicktime using 854X480 (square pixels) without seeing any problems. Is that what you tried?
