Can anyone refer me to a good resource for explaining all the esoteric settings and their effects when encoding to MPEG 2 DVD? For example, If I have 3 short films (8 minutes each) is there any reason to not encode at CBR at the maximum quality settings? But no where does it explain in the users manual how to set the M Frame and N Frame settings, whatever the situation. I’m clueless. What M and N Frame setting would increase quality? The tree short films should all fit on one DVD, so I want to max out the quality settings. What advantage would VBR impart in this situation where there is plenty of room for the highest bit rate?

    Thanks, Steve in Portland

You do understand, you just are not positive you understand. Pretty normal situation around here.

Yes, using CBR for a short video at 8Mbps using the highest quality is fine for what you want to do. There is no need for a second pass to optimize the quality if it is using the maximum rate.

Don’t be tempted to use a higher bitrate since there could be players that have trouble with anything too high.
