The editor is using the original clips Set A audio and video. Seperately, you are using Set A video and merging with different audio.
So you want to get his sequence, and have the sequence reference the same video, but new audio.
One way to do this is to export all your merge clips to a new disk location, and then link the sequences to these clips Set B, instead of Set A.
You can’t link original audio of one length, to different audio of a different length, because Final Cut is using offsets from the beginning of the quicktime to calculate media used in a sequence. You have to create audio identical in length to the originals to relink.

If the files are greyed out, Cinema Tools is not seeing them as edl. If you control click on the edl files and “get info” what do you learn about them?
Can you open them in a text editor?

Using Cinema Tools, under the file menu Export — Converted EDL — 24fps from 30 fps, then select the EDL file to be converted.

Some of the work during cutting can be:
babysitting visitors by showing them footage, exporting and encoding to make DVDs, building all the temp mixes for showing those polished rough cuts, coordinating VFX if you have any, finding temp sound fx, creating various approaches to trailers, splitting dialog as sound edit prep, coordinating FTP transfers from composers, backups, checking script super notes when issues arise over coverage, creating sophisticated DVD templates from exported stills with photoshop, testing sound conformation to sound edit system, warning when producers have been spotted lurking, potentially cutting or assembling scenes, etc.

November 19, 2008 at 5:41 pm in reply to: Different files, with same name but in different folders opening to show the same footage – enter a very weird world…If I inherited this mess, I would consider renaming the files, maybe appending the capture date and time, or at least the folder name, onto the file name.
Automator can do this pretty easily, so it might be time to clean up before going much further.
I’m sure George Foreman has this issue, with 6 sons named George. But he had the excuse of being hit in the head a lot before he used duplicate names.

I also think it was turned on for playback. Here’s from the A1U user manual\

How much ram do you have? That seems like an incredible long time.

Drop frame attempts to keep the time on the VCR/VTR matching the time on the clock on the wall.
If video ran at 30 frames per second, in an hour you would have 30 * 60secs * 60 mins of frames go by, or 108,000 frames.
However, complete frames always go by, but they go by slower, so in an hour of clock on the wall, you actually have only 29.97 * 60secs * 60 mins, or 107,892 frames in an hour.
So the keep the VCR clock and the clock on the wall together, you have to make up that difference of 108 too many frames count in an hour. To do that, DF skips 2 frames of count at each minute mark. If you did that for every minute, you would skip 120 frames of count in an hour, which would not be 108.
To get 108 frames of count skipped, the 2 frames skipping does not occur on the even 10 minute marks. There are 6 of those (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 00). So for 6 minutes out of each hour, no frame counts are skipped. For 54 minutes out of each hour, 2 frame counts are skipped. 54 * 2 frame counts = 108 frames, which is the magic difference between the theoretical 30 frames per sec used in the counting system, and the real 29.97 frames per sec that video actually uses.

Speed changes definitely affect the EDL.
I put a clip in the timeline, and it’s timecode on the EDL was 00:02:30:25 to 00:03:12:26.
Then I put a 200% speed on it, and the timecode on the EDL was 00:02:30:25 to 00:02:51:25
