Digital Anarchy has a plug in called 3D layer that’ll do this…

I’ll admit with great shame that I have a hard time understanding aspect ratios (square pixels vs .9) I’ve always created graphics at 720×486 and interpret footage as .9 NTSC with no problems, but in a recent project I was told to create graphics at 864×480 ‘due to square pixels’… I need to read up and would appreciate any suggested resources to help me wrap my brain around this issue…

    Proactive thanks,

The only plug ins I’ve run across whose packages don’t include some degree of ‘filler’ are from Trapcode.

Never mind – I just need to pre-comp the layer then apply ‘Real Shadows’ to that and I’m good to go… thanks for your help.

Thanks for the reply – however I believe I did not state my question properly…

I have rotated the 3d layer -90 on z, but want to reorient the layer axis to 0/0/0, not as it is currently (0/0/-90). In my 3D apps, this is done easily (in Softimage, you simply ‘freeze’ the object orientation and the -90 on z becomes 0 – leaving the object re-oriented and the axis reset to 0/0/0)

I’m having difficulty using the Image Lounge plug in ‘Real Shadows’ – it is placing the start, end and angle settings incorrectly on my rotated layer and my shadows are not ‘behaving’ properly. Again, thanks for any help.

  • I’ve been told that it’s best to not precomp at all – as it slows down the speed to one degree or another. But to NOT precomp makes the score on hella mess, and terribly hard to organize. Is this simply a trait of 5.5 that was addressed in subsiquent upgrades, or have I been misinformed ?

I was thinking of creating a background of a flythrough of all the pix spaced on the z axis – and have a tight DOF set on the camera – and maybe parent some lights to the camera for added depth… Then just mute the constrast or otherwise tone it back somehow… I’m not trying to make it overtly ‘flashy’ – just trying to avoid it looking like a screensaver set to music – you know?…

    Thanks for the reply.
