May 22, 2015 at 7:46 am in reply to: improving render times / fx factory with 4K footage in FCP7pretty much everything i do is for the web / youtube etc. So have found LT fine for that and saves editing in proxy than re connecting into standard pro res. I’ve even used pro ress proxy for some youtube unboxing videos (stuff i dont really care about) and even that looks ok!
Would another pro ress flavour render quicker?
Also, have left it to render over night and have had no crashes or ‘out of memory’ pop ups so certainly rgb with the gh4 works – but a effect laden timeline may break it.
Ive also found editing in proxy then simply changing the timeline to LT works

May 21, 2015 at 8:50 pm in reply to: improving render times / fx factory with 4K footage in FCP7I may have figured it out – render in RGB in stead of 10 bit
from 35 hours to um… 9 hours! better than nothing i guess!
Im sure XDCAM takes around 5 hours per 1 hour to render so it makes more sense now.

i made disc images of all the fcs discs (back in 2010) i recently (april 2015) did a fresh install on yosemite – worked all find, apart from fx factory no longer working (which i use alot).
Just make disc images of the discs and double click, install them – you probably just need the apps which are 4gb in size so just deselect the media option

March 8, 2015 at 10:40 am in reply to: Consumer / Prosumer camera to closely match EX3 for ConferencesTo answer my own question, the Legria HG30 seems to match the ex3 quite well, purely based on a couple tests at home. I believe the legria has a similar sized (half inch) sensor(s) to the ex3 so understandable.
Also called Vixia in the states for some weird reason?
Certainly an improvement on the cruddy consumer pal sony camcorder i was using.

I was thinking perhaps a canon legria hf g30 which I used recently (but in the spanish sun) – Something more compact and can squeeze into my ex3 camera bag.

I too have crashes with FX Factory plugin – have updated to the latest ML version – seems ‘broken sprocket’ effect causes big issues with rendering – even some pixels in the finished render (if it doesnt crash that is).
Solution – avoid certain plugins – I’m going to do a clean install of FCS3 – probably remove FCX too.
Annoying as SL was fine – but FX Factory has got new effects with the lates ML version…
