Thank you for the information. For the price, I might go for the 21.5″ LM-2130W to get the full HD 1920 x 1080.

    Thanks again,

I also use a monopod. But I’m finding myself wanting to do more with the manual controls of the EX1 and I’m considering this solution:

Thank you guys. I understand now. I was under the impression that the ioHD was transcoding on the fly to see playback on the preview monitors.

What confused me was when I read different posts here on the COW about editing in the native codec and setting your Render Control Codec to Apple ProRes 422 as the workflow. Which works ok on the computer monitor, but not so much if you have a preview monitor and a client monitor hooked up the the ioHD.

So my best bet is to transcode my XDCAM EX files to ProRes 422 HQ and work in a ProRes sequence to get the most out of my system.

    Thank you,
    Steve

  • Yikes is right! Thank you to everyone that posted information on this subject. And now that I have a better understanding between the Sony transfer app and the browser app, I will definitely be changing my workflow.

  • Curious… Why is there no mention of using the Sony XDCAM Transfer? That’s what I use. Then after the transfer and after checking a few clips, I trash the BPAV folder on the card and put it back in the camera. Should I be getting familiar with the Sony EX Clip Browser instead?

    Thank you,
    Steve

Thank you. I just wasn’t sure if HD TV’s had the same crop issues as SD TV’s. I appreciate your help.

I’ll try to make this explanation as simple as possible without getting to technical. Do yourself a favor and shoot it with the HD camera. Then, light the background the best you can. It will make keying out easier in the end. If you have a copy of After Effects Professional bundle, there is a plug in in the extra’s folder called Keylight. Install that. I have found that little free plug in was a lot more powerful than the keyers in FCP. Plus it has a low learning curve.

I’m falling in love with this camera. But I see one issue though. And I hope it’s a type-o. On page 4 on the botton, it says it samples at 4:2:0. Please say it isn’t so.
