Thanks – This helped. It just looks stretched in the Motion Canvas but not in FCP or on the monitor.

Thanks for the tutorial, Mark. This is great. I am wondering, though, if the original question wasn’t that he wanted each square to have the same opacity from beginning to end. I was thinking that he wanted square one to go (for example) from 0-10, square 2 to go from 0-20, square 3 to go from 0-30 and so on. So the opacity is animating, but each square has a different final opacity level. Perhaps your tutorial addresses that concept as well.

Thanks! I will definitely get your DVD, but your comments are a help for the immediate needs. I was thinking of something like the capture project plan, so I will try that.

    Thanks John,

I’ve done that and it sort of works. It’s very strange, I can convert the video and the field order works, but the audio is missing. (Yes, I made sure the audio tape was checked) When I look at the converted file, it says 2 tracks stereo aif 48k, but there’s nothing there. Nothing in the waveforms. I’ve tried it several ways, but no luck. My workaround is to transcode the audio separately from the flv and link them in fcp.

Unfortunately, I edit a lot of projects using clips from the web and I’ve found it easier/quicker to download them in Firefox with the download converter and transcode to Prores, rather than try and capture the clip with SnapzProX and convert.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Sorry for the confusion. I was only referring to the drop-down menu as my solution to the option dragging not working. I don’t do that with the option key. And the weird thing about the anomoly I am getting is that it only happens with a few transitions. Most of them copy in the timeline fine. I will try and test it some more and figure out what the circumstances are. It might be that it happens more often to non-specific length clips, like photos and generators.

thanks for making me feel less crazy. I do it all the time, but for some reason, it sometimes won’t bring the length with it. I first thought it was handles related, but it’s making the transition LONGER, not shorter, so that’s not the issue. Very strange. And it doesn’t happen every time. Just enough to make me nutty.

That’s why I thought it had to do with the length of the default. But that’s not it either. Maybe a preference trashing will fix it.

    thanks,

Thanks David for confirming my suspicions. I’m probably going to end up videotaping the computer screen directly into FCP due to time constraints, so that I don’t have to wait a long time for rendering….

November 2, 2007 at 11:19 pm in reply to: Am I allowed to show brands?

This is somewhat unrelated, but I’m curious what people think. I’m editing a video for an insurance company that granted a “free video” to a local fire department on fire safety that will be distributed for free to the residents of the neighborhood. There is a section on “Disaster Kit” and the footage has a lot of products like bottles of water, cans of food, flashlight, bandages, etc. We’re about to reshoot all of this and take the labels off all the items and turn the boxes around so that the “brand” isn’t showing. Is this necessary? Since this is a big corporation, we’re being extra careful, but I’m wondering if we’re being overly paranoid.

Nothing is shown in a bad light in any way.

Is this drive good for the MacPro as well, or do I need something different?
