    Hi,

I’ve had this issue for a while and have never been able to find a solution for it. I always copy transitions from one clip to another in a sequence by option dragging, but if I try it with any transitions that I have originally customized and added to my favorites, this method doesn’t work. It only works with transitions from the video transitions folder. As most of the transitions I use are found in my favorites folder, I end up not being able to option/drag very often. I have just been doing the extra steps of going through the menus or dragging from the favorites folder each time, which gets tiresome.

Has anyone else had this issue? Am I missing a step somewhere?

    Thanks,

    Steve

I just tested your theory by copying tmts flashframe to my favorites, adding it to a seq, then option drag copying it no problem.

    So no, no problem here.

OK…I’m going to ask maybe a stupid question, but why Alt-drag the effect? From the favorites…I don’t see any difference between dragging and alt dragging.

It’s option. Not alt. But, that’s how you copy and paste transitions in the timeline. Or clips, or just about anything on the mac (or PC) for that matter. Say you have a dissolve at the beginning of a clip. You want the same at the end. Just option drag it to the end, and drop it exactly where you want it, either at start middle or end. All with one nice click drag. Alot easier than pullig it from bin, using the keyboard, or right clicking.

I’m natively a PC guy…and the key on my keyboard says “alt” and “option”.

I understand that you can copy a transition directly in the timeline using the option key.

But in your discussion, the reference was to option dragging from the effects palette (folders). That was my question. Dragging or option dragging doesn’t seem to do anything different for me.

    Hi,

Sorry for the confusion. I was only referring to the drop-down menu as my solution to the option dragging not working. I don’t do that with the option key. And the weird thing about the anomoly I am getting is that it only happens with a few transitions. Most of them copy in the timeline fine. I will try and test it some more and figure out what the circumstances are. It might be that it happens more often to non-specific length clips, like photos and generators.

You misread something. No mention of option dragging from a bin to a timeline line in this thread. There is mention of a problem option dragging transitions that came from the favorites folder. In other words, the were placed in the timeline from the favorites, then option dragged, but with no luck.

OK…well, it’s probably in my *newness* to FCP. When I read “favorites folder” I equated it to same as the effects *pallete* in AVID.

    Sorry for the miscommunication.

So to clarify…what is the difference between dragging and option-dragging from the favorite effects folder? Seems to do the same thing for me.
