Your best bet is going to be to apply a color corrector effect to each of them and then get them as close as possible. Part of your problem is that you aren’t using identical cameras with identical settings, they aren’t going to even be close unless you tweak them.

or you can push the “B” key and the “N” key to set your comp in and out points. That should do the trick

  • I am getting the same problem.

use dynamic link in the new production studio, or just copy and paste a clip from one to the other and then copy the effect from that clip

Chad is right, a low shutter angle in film is like a high shutter setting on a digital video camera (although in reality since the video number is actually a fraction 1/x where x is the shutter speed, it is really a smaller, lower number) The way that they get the different color effects is by doing a process called “skip bleach processing” or “bleach bypass” this leaves the silver on the film and helps mute colors as well as “blow out” other areas of the picture. Magic Bullet can simulate bleach bypass, and it is very easy to turn your shutter speed up to get the low shutter angle of film.

  • yes, it should play back smoothly. When I first tried playing a clip of native hdv it (PPro 2.0) didn’t seem to like it, but I restarted my computer and tried it again and it played great, even with slowmotion and transitions on it. It also looked much better than the same clip from Cineform. (yeah I know that cineform is supposed to be so great, but side by side the native had much less compression artifacts on it) The shot was of a swimming pool with 30 or so kids playing in it. I also have a 7800gt and sata2 drives, but I’m using a Pentium D 830. I wish I knew how to help you, but just so you know, it should be playing back just fine.

Has anyone tried copying the codec from encore to the premiere directory?

I think a lot of people want Premiere Pro 2.0 to be patched to 2.1 or 2.01 and include P2 support for the Panasonic HVX200 and the upcoming Varicam that uses P2. Premiere is an awesome tool, but without MXF support, it will be in trouble.

  • Actually in all reality you can do overcranking in 1080p, because you can shoot 1080 30P and then slow it down to 80% of the speed (granted that isn’t much) and you would have a slight dreamy effect.
