  • Can’t do Dolby DVD from PPro 2.0?

Posted by Mark Weaver on March 6, 2006 at 5:08 pm

    Hi all,
I just ran into this last night. It seems that the
EXPORT to DVD from the PPro2.0 timeline is limited to
MPEG and PWM unless you spend $295 for the encoder.
This seems so strange, because if I have Encore(which I do)
I can output Dolby Digital without having to purchase
the encoder. I thought Premier Pro and Encore used
the same code for DVD creation. I am not trying to
do anything more that stero dolby.

Anybody know anymore about this? Did I miss the option?

    Thanks

    Mark

Maybe they use the same code, but it appears dolby digital sound, provided by the Surcode plugin, is limited to 3 trial uses. I ran into this myself last night. It would be nice to have it included in Premiere, but plug-ins cost money, even in bulk. I’ll be going the extra step with Encore if I need the extra space that Dolby will save me over PCM, or if I have to get more sophisticated than Premiere allows me to easily do.

    Good luck

    Rich,
Yeah, your right, plugins do cost extra, but I was
just under the impression that PPro and Encore shared
this code, and since Encore can create Dolby Digital I
thought it would work in PPro too. Oh well. If I have
something small PCM will work fine.

On to ENCORE 2.0(which should be fun to play with anyway)

I’m pretty sure it’s not the same code. The Surcode plugin can create a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix whereas Encore can only create a stereo Dolby mix.

Has anyone tried copying the codec from encore to the premiere directory?
