Make sure your timeline is completely rendered. Check all under Sequence/Render, Render All, Render Only.

Export QuickTime Movie (reference movie) from FCP not Export Using QuickTime Conversion.

For Data DVD, drop that file into Compressor and choose an h.264 setting.

iMac is limited as far as options. But it what you have. Some RAID considerations, G-Tech and Caldigit. Other World Computing also has many options. You can only connect via FW 800 to your iMac.

RAID 1 = Mirrored. 2 hard drives each with identical data. Good for protection.
RAID 0 = 2 Hard drives striped as 1. Unprotected good for speed.
RAID 5 = Minimum 3 hards drives in an enclosure. Good for speed and data protection.

External monitoring is also very important especially when working with DSLR footage. Once again, not a lot of options with the iMac. Computer monitor is NOT accurate. It also is very different compared to a broadcast monitor or even a cheap LCD TV. You also can not simply connect your iMac to a TV.

No Problem. As you can see, only 480 allows you to choose between DV, DVCPro and DVCPro 50. That is why when you select 720 or 1080 it is blue.

All depends on the bit rate. Drop the file into Compressor choose CBR 5.8 and hit submit. Batch monitor and Compressor will give you an estimate. When it’s done, Batch Monitor will tell you how long it took.

In Recording setup, select any of the 720 or 1080 options to achieve DVCPro HD.

Have you tried your manual? If you don’t have one, you can find it online.

It’s very simple, composite is the only source with an input. Hint: Deck (VCR) must in in what mode?

If your clips do not have handles, you will have to do them manually one by one.

One easy way to do this is to use the ripple edit tool (rr). Select each side of your edit (u) and type 15 or -15 and enter.

Once the are trimmed, you can easily apply a cross dissolve between each clip in one move.
