Internal drive is NOT recommended for storing media. This will cause many problems in the long run.
Back to your original question, upgrading to Lion will not improve anything on your system. As mentioned above, get at least 8GB of RAM look into an external RAID (enclosure with FW800/eSATA). Other World Computing has those options for you. G-Tech is another place to look for drives.

It’s very simple. After you delete the MOVs form your system, to re edit the project, open the FCP project. All media will be offline. Connect the Hard Drive with the P2 data and open Log and Transfer. You can re transfer any or all the clips in your project by selecting them in your Bin or the Timeline and select Batch Capture. Pop up menu asks all clips or selected. That’s it.

It’s a known issue. Improvements were made on the HPX-370. You have to play with the settings that appeal to you. Save it to the SD card and your good to go.

You do have a few options. The HPX-600 should be available next year. That would be a wise investment. In addition to AVC-intra, it will be AVC-Ultra and MicroP2 ready.

Personally buy what you need and use now, upgrade when time and money allow. In the long run, everything usually works out. Renting is always an option.

Computer monitors are for viewing your NLE interface. Two monitors allow you to have more screen
real-estate.

Setting should ALWAYS be off while editing. For presentation purposes they are ok to turn on.

You will have to wait for the AJA T-Tap that will take a Thunberbolt out of of port to SDI/HDMI video monitor. That will be a Video signal. When it ships, I never want to hear or see another editor complain that they can’t afford to monitor their video properly. You still have to buy the HDMI or HD-SDI compatible monitor.
