  • FCP no viewer or canvas or FCP preferences or User Data after downloading C300 plugin.

    Hi there

I have just downloaded the C300 plugin from Canon’s site to use C300 footage in FCP. However, now when I open FCP I can not bring up my canvas or viewer. On the scroll down menu both the canvas and viewer are checked but no where to be seen. And when I click on them I can’t uncheck them.

I tried to go and delete my FCP preferences and User Data and restart hoping that may solve the problem but I can’t find those either! As in I know where they live: Library/Preferences etc but they are not there.

Is there a work around or do I need to reload the discs (which are at home and I am traveling … argh)?

If I have to reload the discs then my question is I will probably have to download the C300 plugin again and so will the same thing happen?

    Any thoughts much appreciated.

there are two or more libraries in your system with preferences . Don’t look in main/library, but in User/library..you will find a folder called “Final Cut Pro User Data”.

Just download Digital Rebelion’s Preference Manager. It’s free. For $140 more, get Pro Maintenance Tools, the most advanced utility for your NLE Apps.

Once you’ve installed the plugin you need to use Log and Transfer to see the MXF files in FCP and then bring them in as ProRes files. Be sure to copy the whole card from the camera. If you’ve installed the Canon XF Utility (which will also install the Log and Transfer plugin) you will be able to use this to view files on your desktop and Back Up the CF card correctly.

The XF Utility comes as part of the camera package or you can download it free here; https://www.learn.usa.canon.com/resources/blogs/2012/20120223_xf_utilities_and_plugin_updates.shtml

This works for the XF300, XF100 series as well as the C300, it’s the same codec. It’s extremely fast at backing up and transferring, especially when compared to the H264 codecs on Canon HDSLRs.

I recently had a new tower purchased and FCP 6 reinstalled. The weird thing is this: in the USERS folder, there is no Library. Where do I go to trash prefs if there is no folder (You mentioned to other poster that Main library folder was the wrong place to go)
