When you send in your discs, you could have made a disc image or even copied the discs. I have had only a few MINOR problems with FCP. 4.5, 5.0.4 and 5.1.2 currently all work great for me. Compressor is extremely fast on my Mac Pro Dual 3.0. Sure a lot of my third party plug-ins aren’t compatible with the intel.

FCP version 5.1.2 and the Varicam are a perfect match.

Red 3 transitions WILL work on FCP versions prior to 5.11.

If you don’t want digital dropouts, use small DVCAM tape. It may cost a few dollars more. But it might save you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars one day.

In the long run DVCAM tape will prove to be more profitable. You can reuse DVCAM tape well over 200 times without any dropouts. MiniDV will give you dropouts after only two passes.

NABET and IBEW. Check for local chapters. All major cities are unionized. You usually run into trouble if you plug in AC or are set on a tripod.

Place everything in the timeline. Select all audio from audio track 1 in timeline and select Modify/Audio/Pan. Do the same for track 2.
