The settings are extra. You need to provide the appropriate hardware (capture card, RAM, RAID) in order to use the settings.

FCP currently only uses a maximum of 4 GB. It is possible the the other RAM is conflicting. Does this problem happen all the time? Try restarting your system, trash your render files and trash your preferences.

My guess is your RAM. I am running the MPro Dual 3GHz with 5GB of RAM and I have no problems with rendering.

You simply cannot connect to any HDMI/DVI monitor and use it as a true reference monitor. You are going to need the Matrox MXO or HD Link from Blackmagic with any of there cards.

The DVI is not a video output. It it used to mirror your MBP or attach a second computer monitor. To properly setup your video output, you need to connect a DV camera/deck via FW and take the video output (s-video or composite) and connect that to any TV/LCD/Plasma video input.
The Matrox MXO will allow you to take the DVI output from your MBP and display it on your Sharp LCD.

First thing you should do is clone your hard drive. Put that on the shelf as a backup.
Regarding QuickTime. Update to the latest version.
