  • which QT for use with FCP studio 5.1.2?

I’m trying to take Jerry Hofmann’s advice from the first Cow magazine and wipe clean my system drive and reinstall FCP Studio. Actually, I don’t really have much of a choice as my current system drive is making a shifting sound and I fear death is near. So I’m actually getting a whole new hard drive, replacing the old one, and reinstalling all the software from the ground up.
At any rate, I’ve done a search but couldn’t find a recent post suggesting which version of QT to use. Strange, last time there were all kinds of warnings of what to use and what not to use, but perhaps that was b/c QT7 was so new. It does seem that 7.1.2 and 7.1.3 are the most popular. So, can anyone recommend which version to go with?
Thanks ahead of time for any help!

First thing you should do is clone your hard drive. Put that on the shelf as a backup.

Regarding QuickTime. Update to the latest version.

Thanks for the help! I’ll go with the latest QT then. About the hard drive, actually I tried to clone it with Disk Utility but got an error after about 1.5 hours. Figured it was b/c the drive was having that hardware issue. One AppleCare Tech said Disk utility wasn’t the way to go, but that 3rd party software was.
Done more trouble shooting and wasted more time, I just figured I’d be better off following Jerry Hofmann’s advice in the article and start from a clean slate. At this point I’ve already got a new drive with 10.4.8 loaded, so I figured I might as well go all the way.
