HD TV hook-up as external monitor?
Posted by Jose Ponsay on February 14, 2007 at 1:13 pmI have an HD TV I’d like to use as a full-screen reference of the canvas window in FCP 5.1….How do I make this happen? I have the DVI cable to the HDMI on the TV. So far all I’m able to do is view a mirror image of my desktop. Thanks.

February 14, 2007 at 3:35 pmYou simply cannot connect to any HDMI/DVI monitor and use it as a true reference monitor. You are going to need the Matrox MXO or HD Link from Blackmagic with any of there cards.

March 2, 2007 at 6:05 amyour TV should appear as a second monitor in your mac osx preference panes.
Once you see you desktop on the TV you’re okay to gothen in Final Cut, at view/video playback menu choose Digital Cinema Desktop Preview and your TV will show up a black screen.. upon you hit play either on the timeline or viewer you should see your video on the tv.
but remenber, it’s just a preview you will not see the whole resolution… it’s just to se the “big picture” while you’re editing, but it’s better than nothing.
If you want to have real HD monitoring you have to install a intensity board, Decklink HD Studio or the other solution proposed in this thread..
By the way, and this is the reason why I find this post… I want to do the same, but I have no PCIe computer (old G5) any solution similar to the Blackmagic’s Intensity but for PCI-X computers?
thanks!
