It did work on the avi file. I got to thinking, I wonder whether Nero has a decoder in their program, because I have that on the older computer. So, I installed Nero 6.6 onto the new computer, and I can play dvds now. BUT, for some reason I cannot play wmv files. I used Vegas to render that avi file to wmv, and it is just like MSNBC news clips, all funky looking (like reversed flourecent colors). And even now when I use the XP Codec Utility Checker, it shows the Nero video decoder, and still says even it is not compatable with WMP. Did you guys have to buy MainConcept Jmpeg file, or are you using something else. How long is the trial version for? I unistalled the demo version, to see if it is picked up by Nero, and it is. Don’t understand what is going on, but just have to figure out what’s up with the WMV file playback stituation.
I appreciate all your help,—-believe me!!!

    Mike,
I downloaded that file from MainConcepts website. They say there will be a watermark, but don’t see one on the videos. I don’t understand why I didn’t have the same problem with the older machine? I still have a problem with not being able to play dvd’s, and the funky flourencent colored screen on some of my training dvd’s and MSNBC’s news videos. I show that I have mcdspmeg.ax files on the computer , so why wouldn’t they be working? And how long does that demo version work?

    Mike,
I downloaded a program: “Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility”. It checks to see what decoders are installed on your system. These are the ones it comes up with: MainConcept Mpeg Decoder-mcdsmpeg.ax, MainConcept (Adobe 2) Mpeg Decoder-ad2mcdsmpeg.ax, ATI Mpeg Video Decoder-atidvcr.dll, ATI CC Multiplexer-atidvcr.dll.
I had also downloaded Windows Media Encoder 9 Series, and that did not good. All of the above files, are considered uncompatable with WMP, according to the checkup utility. I notice that you also have to purchase that MainConcept Mjpeg file that you are talking about. I don’t understand why my previous machine that I am on now, I didn’t remember doing anything special to, and all my editing programs run fine, and all video pertaining to the machine runs fine. I thought that these MainConcept files came on Vegas. Also, I noticed that MainConcept has a DV codec file that according to them, makes rendering faster. Is that also on Vegas installation disk?
Thanks Mike for your help, or anyone else that throw in their two cents. I have a wedding coming up, and need the new machine running in tip top shape for the editing.

I already have MainConcept. I downloaded a program that checks all your codecs on the computer, and it says “This Decoder in not compatible with the syncronization feature of Windows Media Player 10. I have Media Player 9. I also show having 2 MainConcept Video Decoder files. One says “MainConcept (Adobe 2) Video Decoder. Have you ever heard of a pack of codec files by the name of K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. Not sure whether to install it or not.

Those are your setting that you gave me before, except you added 24pA. I assume that before you meant 24p, cause that’s what I had it set on. I liked the settings, but that was the ones that had a little blue tint on the light coming in the window. What I did after setting it up (settings) was took a piece of white paper, zoomed in, and did a white balance. Still not sure what to do when you see the Zebra pattern, because you can only mess with the correction of the wash out, is when you put iris in manual, right?
I really do appreciate your input.

I tried setting that you gave me and I do see a difference. I seen some blue tints where the sunshite was coming in the window. The settings that you said someone uses for broadcasting, was soft, but a little dark too. I guess I will have to play with the settings. Unless someone else has some other settings that I can try.

So, are you saying that I should try to shoot a wedding in 24p,or 60i?
I saw a few comments about others not liking to shoot weddings in that mode. Shot last one in 60i. I have till November for the next wedding, so I have some time to play. No we didn’t get off on the wrong foot, just getting frustrated because I have seen other training videos listed for other cameras, but not this one. But I will make sure you get the first copy of my “DVX & Vegas for Dummies, that don’t like Macs and reading” training DVD.

Thanks alot. I haven’t really changed any defaults, so I will begin there. I had went through them last week, and was checking the settings of each one. I need to build confidence in knowing what I am doing everytime that I change something, so this is a starting point. I appreciate your time and sharing your knowledge. These settings that you showed me would be some good settings for a wedding theme?
I was playing with the iris in manual mode, and it seems to close and open with a very very slight movement of the dial.
    Thanks again.
